Part 5 - Make an office look as it has been robbed exercise

In this piece, we were given two photo references to choose from and base a drawing on. I chose the one of the office because I thought it was more interesting. The aim was to make the office look as if a burglary had taken place in it.

Whilst I was able to draw the office quite well and show perspective, what I failed to do was present a room where a robbery could have taken place. I found it difficult to make the room look chaotic and I found it difficult adding more elements to the room. Some of the objects proportions are very wonky or look unfinished.

Alongside the goldfish bowl exercise, this was probably my other least successful piece.


If I were to redraw this image with the knowledge I have now, for example, being able to draw perspective more competently and making an interesting composition, I would try to make the room look more turbulent with the chairs having been pushed around, books all over the floor and desk, and just overall, a more chaotic composition, with the furniture more in disarray, things out of place. I was focussing too much on trying to create the images rather than create the story.

Key Commands for Blender

During this brief, I learnt many keywords and shortcuts to make Blender more manageable, as I found it quite overwhelming and confusing. By using the number pad on the side of a PC keyboard, you will shortcut to a different, easier-to-manage viewpoint to help keep your pieces in the centre (with the one I used most frequently being was 1). Building in the centre is always the best way to do it or you lose account of your object’s scale etc. Mirroring is a much better way to create symmetrical objects instead of grabbing them and having to put them in the right place. By using the Wireframe view, you can select the object all the way through. This was especially helpful for when I made my bowl. Loopcuts are great for making more intricate designs. Part 4 Forest Perspective Drawing

The first time I tried to work on my tree drawing, it wasn't very successful as I didn't understand the perspective (especially one as complex as the forest I was using as a reference). I also didn't add much shading (which I felt I could have done to create more depth) and so I tried again. The second time however, I had a lot more success as I understood the perspective better, and I was able to show where each tree sat in the landscape. I think the saving grace of this piece was the use of charcoal as I was able to create a greater sense of depth using this medium. I am very pleased with the atmosphere of the second piece.

Sandie Character Sketches

“What’s Behind the Door” “Victorian Ghost Girl” - Final Character Design Sandie character/animation sheet progress First, I started by doing a rough sketch of my character in pencil to get a feel for her anatomy and what details I did and didn’t want to include. Next, I went over the rough sketches in pen. I decided to give the character a button eye, a Lolita/Victoria style frilly dress, and a hat to fit her doll motif. She has long curly hair that is akin to smoke (as she died in a fire) and her design represents how - despite her dying in her 20s - she still looks very youthful and innocent.
